The four recalibration patterns
Effort is rarely the problem for people who end up here. The problem is calibration: a state that was once right for the work and has stopped adjusting to it. It shows up in four forms.
Urgency
Moving faster than the situation requires. Reactive over deliberate.
Urgency is the pattern of moving faster than the situation actually requires. It is not laziness inverted and it is not poor time management. It is a state that was once appropriate to the work and has stopped switching off when the work does.
Authority
Gap between knowing and saying. Competence without full expression.
Authority is the pattern where the judgement is sound and something leaks between forming the thought and delivering it. The gap is not competence. It is the distance between knowing and arriving with it fully expressed.
Clarity
Decision fatigue blurring judgment. Running on depleted conditions.
Clarity is the pattern of running judgement on depleted conditions. The calls are still sound, which is exactly why it goes unaddressed: the output has not degraded yet, only the ease with which it arrives.
Precision
Edge reduction. A fraction off from their own standard.
Precision is the pattern of operating a fraction below your own standard. It is the least visible of the four, because the gap is measured against your calibration rather than anyone else and nobody outside your head has the reference point.
